Message from Chief Rat Norm Lamb

    Board Members Wanted

Are you interested in participating on our Board of Directors? Every year we do have some turn over in the board. If you interested in participating please contact me and we can discuss the possibilities. We are always looking for good people.

    Catamaran regatta

There is a cat regatta this weekend at our club. All cat sailors are welcome.

    September BBQ

The final summer BBQ will be help on Thursday Sept 13th. Mark it in your calendar. I hope you can attend.

    Science experiment

There is a pink rope attached to a few clear plastic bottles on the dock. Please don't remove them as people are monitoring the bottles for algae growth.

    Member parties

Some club members have used our facilities to host member parties. We have had a few this year and have had some suggestions from members on how to make this a better experience for all. The board will be looking at this for next year.

    Boats

At the moment our coach boat (otherwise known as the RIB) is going into the mechanic for some much needed attention. Our other smaller boat (known as the Whaler) has seen better days and is in need of attention or possible retirement.

    Clean-up day

We haven't finalized the date but keep your eyes open for something in early November.

    AGM

At the moment we have chosen a tentative date for the AGM, November 18th (Sunday 2pm). We will finalize that date at our next board meeting in September and let you know

    - Norm

    Notices:

Oh, world politics. Canadians looking to buy a new U.S. made sailboat, as of today, will have a 10 per cent tariff added. If looking to save try other origins as well and the various classifieds online.

May you enjoy the summer from our beach sharing Toronto' beautiful parkland and waterfront with its residents and visitors.

Skip the 400. Keep an eye on the wind and get on the water!

Tacking for Lasers appeared in The International Laser Class Association's blog on May 30, 2018

By Jon Emmett, a professional sailing coach in the UK

One of the beauties of Lasers is just how well they tack—if tacked well. Races are anything but a boat speed race to the corner in most venues and conditions, which means those who have their head out of the boat and good boat handling can gain on every small shift and gust, giving some of the best one design racing available.

Tuesday - Laser and Cat races for fun. All skill levels. Approx 6pm

Thursday - include Laser training. Several of our experienced sailors will pass along hints, tips, and valuable training points to those looking to improve.

There are three purposes for these group sails....
    1. To get people out on the water.... and ....
    2. Meet other people in the club (and friends of)
    3. Improve our sailing skills!

Many thanks to Mike Doell (our Race Rat) for spearheading this.

    - via Norm's email.
